The seasons in nature correspond to the Five Elements Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water.

Each element has a “character”, owns qualities and participates in relationships with other elements. Thus besides being nature's matter the five elements are also essential characteristics with transformative potential participating in the cyclic arrangement of nature. As such the Five Elements are associated with “internal structures” such as organs, sense organs, tissues, tastes, sounds and emotions but also with “external structures” such as seasons, directions, colors, climates and planets.

Thus Wood relates to spring, Fire relates to summer, Earth relates to late summer, Metal relates to autumn and Water relates to winter.
